Greater Lanexa Studio Tour
Artist Bio:
I became interested in beaded jewelry in 2011 when I inherited my mother-in-law’s Swarovski
crystal jewelry collection. She had necklaces in every color to match her outfits. I wanted to
redesign these necklaces into more modern styles that would appeal to the women and girls in
my family. My goal was to give each of them a necklace using the crystals in a design that suited
their style. I took classes at bead shops and on-line and did a lot of trial and error to learn
different beading techniques. A friend and fellow beader introduced me to a Japanese
technique of braiding beads on cords called Kumihimo, which I especially enjoy. The order you
string the beads on the cords creates a pattern, and the possibilities are endless. My pieces are
one-of-a kind. I use beads made of natural stones, shells, ceramic and glass, and string them on
wire, thread, cord, or leather. I have always loved colors, shapes, and textures, and enjoy
creating things that “speak to me.”
